I recently read a report entitled A New Awareness: The Age of Architecture Has Arrived. It was published by The Bloor Group and sponsored by InetSoft, a business intelligence and dashboard software vendor. The part that was most interesting to me was the data on dashboard projects. The report indicated the following:
- 51% of those surveyed are already using dashboards
- 21% of those surveyed are implementing dashboards
- 19% of those surveyed are planning a dashboard initiative
- 9% of those surveyed were not planning any type of dashboard initiative
It’s obvious that dashboards are more pervasive than ever within an organization. I wish the report also included how many of those using dashboards could not live without their dashboard. I.e. how successful was their project?
In any case, I’m happy to hear that dashboards are being used by more people. However, I hope the results proved that dashboards should be treated like a business tool and not an art piece.
