Fujitsu Customers can Migrate Mission-Critical Legacy Systems to PRIMEQUEST Servers Without Taking the Business Offline
SAN FRANCISCO—November 12, 2007—GoldenGate Software Inc., a leading provider of high availability and real-time data integration solutions, today announced a technology alliance with Fujitsu to deliver zero downtime database migrations of legacy systems to Intel® Itanium® based Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST® servers. The solution for zero downtime database migrations is a combination of Fujitsu hardware and GoldenGate® software that enables customers to move data on existing legacy databases and platforms to a modern, open systems database running on Windows or Linux without any planned downtime, which can threaten business revenue and damage brand reputation.
As a growing number of organizations move toward open systems platforms to improve their ability to respond to business demands and opportunities, they face the challenge of updating mission-critical systems without incurring downtime and associated consequences such as lost business opportunities and lower productivity. The Fujitsu and GoldenGate solution combines the open systems capabilities of Linux and Microsoft® Windows® with Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST servers hosting Intel Dual Core Itanium 2 processors, and GoldenGate real-time, transactional change data capture (CDC) technology for zero downtime database migrations. Data can be seamlessly captured from legacy databases such as DB2 for z/OS, and moved to Oracle 10g or SQL Server 2005.
"Today's critical applications and databases operate 24x7, and can't afford any interruption of service," explained Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing, Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation. "With our combined capabilities, GoldenGate and Fujitsu deliver a non-disruptive path to increasing business agility and operational efficiency. With enhancements and upgrades forcing the retirement of legacy systems, customers need a proven, high-performance platform and a way to migrate their databases without business interruption."
GoldenGate software for zero downtime operations and Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST servers are trusted by world-leading organizations to deliver scalable, reliable, flexible and high-performance solutions to complex infrastructure challenges. Together, they provide high-end server functionality, in combination with real-time data capture and delivery, instant failover capabilities and data verification, to manage the process of database migrations without requiring businesses to go offline.
For migrations and upgrades, the source database can be left fully operational during the process, and remain running in parallel with the new database during validation and testing, so that transactions on the new database are in-sync with the legacy system.
Advantages of the Fujitsu and GoldenGate solution include:
• Faster, simplified upgrades, migrations and maintenance for databases and platforms
• Zero interruption to critical business applications
• A single solution to mitigate risk and reduce complexity
• Support for large volumes and ability to validate the integrity and availability of data
• Source and target databases kept in-sync for a reliable fall-back strategy
According to Tim Rathbun, executive vice president of marketing and product management at GoldenGate, "for necessary system upgrade, migration and maintenance activities, the solution provides an easy-to-use, scalable means to move or upgrade essential database software and hardware, while keeping systems highly available. It delivers peace of mind to even the largest enterprises by minimizing disruptions to the business and loss of valuable transactional data—no small consequence to a worldwide business with huge volumes of data. This is the very definition of mission-critical IT, and we are pleased to partner with Fujitsu in this endeavor."
