Attendees of this week's National Fusion Center Conference in Denver will hear how criminal justice, law enforcement and anti-terrorism organizations can use their mountains of data to prevent crime, thwart threats and make the most of limited resources. SAS and Memex are joint sponsors of the event.
"Today's law enforcement leaders must think strategically about how best to protect their communities while managing increasing responsibilities amid fiscal realities," said Vincent Talucci, SAS' Principal Advisor for Law Enforcement and Public Safety. "Further, law enforcement agencies face data overload from records management systems, computer-aided dispatch, intelligence, suspicious activity reports and other disparate sources. The challenges confronting our communities are real, and it is essential for law enforcement to optimize their available resources – their staffing and their data."
SAS® Analytics – coupled with the fusion center expertise and intelligence management lineage of Memex – offer a meaningful opportunity for crime prevention and threat disruption through accurate, timely information and valuable foresight. Regardless of data sources, the collective, complementary strengths allow for a solid operational and analytic foundation to enhance community and officer safety, and quality of life for the citizenry.
"Fusion centers, by their nature, are tasked with managing data from a variety of sources, and Memex technology continues to be invaluable to their efforts," said Talucci. "The integration of Memex and SAS Analytics spans the criminal justice and law enforcement landscape – fusion centers included."
Data on courts, warrants, probation, parole, jails, prisons, fusion centers, DMV and other relevant sources can be brought together to give an unparalleled view of offenders and potential threats.
Whether it is an officer approaching a car, a judge issuing a sentence, or an analyst evaluating a potential threat, professionals at all levels of criminal justice and law enforcement can make more efficient, better-informed decisions.
SAS acquired Memex last year and formed the Memex Solutions Team at SAS, a worldwide provider of intelligence management and data analytics solutions that combine advanced search and reporting tools with flexible deployment strategies to improve intelligence gathering capabilities.
